We just launched a really fun set of content from a great new book for tweens called “Ignatius MacFarland: Frequenaut!”. This can be such a difficult age group when it comes to reading. Kids that loved reading when they were just a bit younger too often seem to drift away from it when they hit their tween years. So when I got a call asking if we would help author Paul Feig (creator of the TV show Freaks and Geeks) get the word out to kids about this new book, I jumped on the chance.
Frequenaut! is a fun book that has elements of comedy, fantasy, and science fiction. The book follows Ignatius (Iggy) MacFarland who, after being teased one too many times, decides to build a rocket to escape his school bullies. Suffice to say that this is not an easy ride – he ends up in another “frequency” battling a former English teacher that has turned into a dictator. The book is very creative and seems to have just the right amount of spice to attract kids. Most reviews seem to recommend the book for kids between the ages of 8 and 14. (A public radio interview discussing the book is here.)
Paul Feig recorded a set of exclusive ringtones for kajeet users – and they get access to them free from the Navigator on the handset. If you are a current kajeet customer, these are accessible from the Navigator home page.
What better place to highlight reading opportunities to kids than on the phone that they carry every day? Please comment & let me know what you think.

kajeet was evaluated by a team of parents at PTPA Media recently. They tested out virtually everything including our parental controls, our services and our pricing – and generally critically evaluated us from a mom’s point of view.
The PTPA concept is the have parent reviewers test parenting products to make it easier for busy parents to make good decisions when they buy products for their kids. I wish I had seen the “teething bling” when my kids were babies. I also love the “My 411 Wristbands” – it can be so easy to get separated from a child in a place such as an amusement park. And rinseless shampoo would sound too good to be true if I did not know how thoroughly the parent reviewers put each product through their paces.
The good news is that they awarded kajeet the Parent Tested, Parent Approvied Seal! kajeet is the only cell phone service to win this award. We are thrilled that the PTPA parent evaluators liked our service.
Take a look at the PTPA Media website to check out other award winning products for parents and kids (including a large array of organic products). You can also sign up to be one of their parent evaluators and be the first to see new parenting products when they come out.
